Things to see and do
Herefordshire has plenty for the visitor to do. There are more miles of public footpath in Herefordshire than roads and we have maps which you can borrow. Offa’s Dyke, (www.offas-dyke.co.uk), is close-by, we are on The Mortimer Trail that runs between Ludlow and Kington and The Herefordshire Trail that circles our county.

Ludlow
(35 mins away)
Ludlow, (www.ludlow.org.uk), has fine Georgian and black and white architecture and lots of small charming shops, such as the Silver Pear and Period House Shop, (www.periodhouseshops.com). It also has a growing reputation for food and its own Food Festival, (www.foodfestival.co.uk). You can go boating on the river and visit the castle, (www.ludlowcastle.com). Nearby Stokesay Castle is a fine example of a fortified manor house, (www.englishheritage.org). You can catch another castle on the way to Ludlow by driving through Wigmore, (www.castlewales.com/wigmore.html). Ludlow also has a week of festivities centred on a Shakespeare play held at the castle, (www.ludlowfestival.co.uk) and a lovely old fashioned race course, (www.ludlow-racecourse.co.uk).

Hay on Wye
(25 mins away)
Hay, (www.hay-on-wye.uk), is a book lovers dream. It also has some lovely craft and antique shops. Hay Bluff is great for walks or hire a canoe and glide down the Wye, (www.wyevalleycanoes.co.uk). International literary festivals occur more than once a year.

Leominster
(20 mins away)
Leominster, (www.leominster.co.uk), is great for antique lovers. There are lots of antique shops and markets so prices are competitive. Auctions are fun, (www.brightwells.com) . Vintage clothes and fabrics can be found at Annie's Tea Gowns and Textiles, (www.vintage-fabrics.co.uk). Leominster Priory Church is also worth a visit. Ten minutes from Leominster towards Gloucester, you will find Broadfield Court, (www.broadfieldcourt.co.uk). Tour the garden, admire the grape vines and enjoy a tasting or have tea.

Hereford
(20 mins away)
Hereford is the home of The Mappa Mundi, (www.herefordcathedral.org). Hereford also has a cider museum and there is a Cider Route for visitors, (www.ciderroute.co.uk). It also has a race course.

Presteigne
(3 miles away)
Although Presteigne is tiny, it has a creative and energetic population. The music festival, (www.cymruarywe.org), is internationally renowned and art exhibitions occur frequently. The Judges Lodging, (www.judgeslodgings.org.uk), is fascinating and atmospheric. Trotting races are held near Presteigne and in Herefordshire, (www.welshtrotting.co.uk).

Kington
(3 miles away)
Kington, (www.kingtontourist.fsnet.co.uk), is the centre for the local farming community, hosting the largest one day agricultural show. Just outside town you will find Stable Studio Gallery, where art courses and exhibitions are held, (www.stablestudio.co.uk). At the marvellous Small Breeds Farm, children can pet the small animals, see a red squirrel and we all can admire the beauty of the owls, (www.owlcentre.com). Hergest Ridge is wonderful for walking and Hergest Croft Gardens are well worth a visit, (www.hergest.co.uk). Kington is home to England’s highest golf course, where a walk is as good as a round of golf.

Black and white villages
Do the tour of the beautiful black and white villages by car or cycle, stopping off at gardens, churches and tea rooms along the way. We also recommend the Gallery in Pembridge, (www.oldchapelgallery.co.uk), as a good stopping place

Rhayader
(50 mins away)
A beautiful drive home to the glorious Victorian dams, (www.elanvalley.org.uk). Along the way you can visit the Red Kite feeding centre, (www.gigrin.co.uk).
